Trekking to Mount Everest, Feb -08

This was a dream I’ve had since I was a child. This was a thing I had to do before I died.
I had to get to Mount Everest Base Camp.

My brother joined me in Nepal, and together we first took on us the mighty task of reaching Machapuchare Base Camp. That would give us sore muscles, but also alot of experience. We knew what we needed, and not needed to bring for the big trek. We knew thou shalt not eat mixfried rice and egg when you have one more day to the top.
We hired us a new guide, Tashi Sherpa. Yep, he’s a real sherpa.

Here’s some of the wonderful photos we took.

Enjoy =)

This is spoken(bad qual) in Swedish, however, the scenery is for everyone.
Mount Everest ladies and gentlemen!

Lukla Airport. A plane departures. Really cool!

Trekking to Machapuchare, Feb -08

This mountain is called Fishtail or locally “Machapuchare”
It is said that a couple of foreign mountain climbers had planned to reach the top of this mountain that no man has ever reached.
On the day of departure they were found dead.
The mystery surrounds the mountain…so what did we decide to do?
Climb it? naah, but we went out for a warmup-trek before taking on our ultimate goal, the Mount Everest-trek.

Vasaloppet & the 50km World Championship

The magic sunday is now over. Atleast sports-wise.
I woke up at 07.29, turned on the tv just as the swedish television(SVT) started airing from “Berga By” where the annual, worlds longest and oldest Cross-country skiing-event starts.Vasaloppet, Photo: www.sweden.se
For the next 4½ hours I watched this festive event, and I say congratulations to Daniel Tynell who won his third Vasalopp.
I’ve made a promise to myself that I will be in that event next year, on the 7th of March 2010 :)

Now to some depressing news.
FIS(International Ski Federation), please change the 50km in the world championships to individual start. I have not seen a more dull contest than what displayed in front of me today. I feel raped of 2 hours o my life.
The thing I’m angry of is this:
When I grew up as a kid, I followed the Cross-country skiing every saturday and sunday at wintertime, and almost every event had “individual start”. This means that every competitor starts 30 seconds after the other, and you get time tables from all around the map, comparing one competitor against the other. It’s an interesting contest during the whole race.
However, since some years back FIS have changed this, and in most cases they have “mass start” which means that all the competitors start at the same time. This is seldom interesting, unless you like to watch a group of athletes following each other doing nothing until the end when they sprint to the finish line. Boring!
