My encounter with the Mr. Lee’s

Hey folks!

On monday afternoon I took the train going from Shenzhen to Guilin, in hope to there catch a bus going against Yangshuo.
But, on the train I met two chinese men. One was 28 yrs old and the other was 60. Both were named ‘Lee’ ;)
The younger one translated for me when I talked to the older Lee, and so we continued until bedtime.

During the conversation I found out that both Lee’s had it pretty good financially. Jr.Lee had a good job in Shenzhen, working for an american company called Honeyware.
Sr.Lee had been working as a cook for a long time of his life. He moved to Canada, Edmonton, where he owned a restaurant, together with some other people.
Anyhow. He sold the restaurant, and started buying houses/apartments which he now rents to people all over the world. He has a very good life, with eraly retirement. But if you’d ask Sr.Lee himself, he would answer, “so so”, with a laugh ;)

Before bedtime Sr.Lee invited me to his home in Guilin. He told me he at the moment had an empty apartment and that I could stay there for a day before I left for Yangshuo.
We arrived at the trainstation, and after a quick phonecall to my girl Cecilia, we left for Lee’s apartment located in an area with a gate at the entrance, controlled by 4 guards!!
He’s a rich man!
The apartment was very nice, extremely nice for being a chinese.

We left our bags and went out on Mr.Lee’s bicycles for a ride around town. He took me to all the great sites in Guilin, so as waters, mountains, towers, parks etc.
We had a great day and we both were exhausted when we got home.
I slept longer than expected and got to Yangshuo two hours later than planned.

I will never forget Mr.Lee’s hospitality and generosity!

Now I’m in Yangshuo. The plan for the day will probobly be to rent a bicycle and hit the ricepaddies…

It’s all about trains

We came from Shanghai to Hong Kong with train on the 18′th december.
I have now spent 5 nights in Hong Kong. Two of them alone.
The three of us split up. Goulperin and Andreas went to Chengdu, while I stayed here in HK for a couple more nights.

Hong Kong is a great city.
It’s a huge mixture of skyscrapers, green mountains, englishtalking chinesepeople, different cultures, indi’s trying to sell you ‘hashish’, extremely narrow trams taking you pretty much everywhere, and where they don’t take you, the bus, ferry or MTR will.
It’s a beutiful mixture and I love it.
The people are like everywhere in China, friendly as hell, but they all want your money ;)

A couple of days ago we went on a daytrip to the Lamma Island, where we walked thru a small village on one side of the Island, to another village on the other side of the Island. The hike took about 3 hours and that’s the best memory from Hong Kong so far.
I’d love to come back here again!
Hong Kong was also the place where I got to know Dan, the english fella. A great guy who I spent almost every day with in Hong Kong. He left this morning for warmer climates, Australia :P

Tomorrow it’s christmas(24′th) for us swedes, and it’s the first christmas I probobly wont be celebrating. Feels a bit strange, but I’ll deal with it.
I’m planning on taking the train from Hong Kong to Shenzhen, then train from Shenzhen to Gulin, from where I take a connecting bus to my final destination, Yangshuo.

About Yangshuo:
I have never been there, but from what I’ve read in the Lonely Planet and from blogs all over the net, some people say it’s the most beautiful place on earth :)
I’ve wanted, for a long time, to rent a bicycle and just peddle aroudn the massive endless ricefields. And apparently Yangshuo should be the best place for that.
I’ve googled some pictures of it, and I’m amazed now as it is…

Instead of travelling with the others, my brother is planning on meeting up with me in Nepal. We’ll travel there til we get bored and then enter India for another 3 months of travelling…
